Fet to Vanilla Translations

So a vanilla friend of mine said he enjoyed the blog but didn't understand a lot of what was being said so I'm going to do a living translation of BDSM terms and acronyms, if anyone has any suggestions please add them in the comments and I'll include them in the post.


BDSM for vanillas.

Collared - When a sub is collared that means that he or she belongs to the Dom or master that collard them. (I will also post more on the intricacies of this type of relationship later).

Dom - The Dominate person in the relationship/play session, the mentor.

Edge Play - Most often used to refer to play with knives but refers to any play where the sub's physical health is put into an increased risk of danger to include knife play, suspension and asphyxiation.

Pain Scale - The pain scale goes normally on a 1 to 10 scale and it's used to give the Dom a reference of how hard he/she can go on their sub.

Play - A play session is ultimately a very personal interaction between a Dom and a sub even though they can occur in private or public settings, it often involves the "tools of the trade" floggers, paddles, switches ect. This is the most well know facet of the BDSM community (I will have a whole post dedicated to play at a later date).

Relationship - This is not necessarily used in the traditional sense but more often in a mentor mentee sense.

Safety Word - Safety words and code between Doms and subs during play sessions to ensure that the subs physical well being is never put in jeopardy. I.E. Green = good you can play harder, Yellow = I'm feeling pain but not enough to stop hold back a bit and give me a rest, Red = I'm at my pain limit and we should stop.

SSC - Safe, Sane and Consensual, the three basic rules for a fun BDSM experiance.

Sub - The submissive person in the relationship/play session, the mentee.

Sub Space - Subspace is a metaphor for the state the bottom's mind and body is in during a deeply involved play scene.

Toys - The items used by a Dom on a sub during a play session, there is no set list of toys.

Troupe/Family - A group of Doms and or sub's who often time play, train and hang out together there may not be any blood relations or even romantic involvement but there is a family none the less.

Vanilla - A Person or Persons who have little to no knowledge of the fetish community and or lifestyle.
